Mexican telecommunications regulator IFT has confirmed that the 5G auction of spectrum for mobile services will take place this year, reported bnamericas.com
The auction was included in the watchdog’s 2022 work plan, which outlines the bidding process for spectrum blocks in the 600MHz, 3.3GHz and 3.5GHz bands, as well as the L band (microwave).
Although the IFT was expected to carry out the 5G tender this year, the work plan unveiled the bands that will be made available to bidders.
IFT had been working on a 5G plan within the framework of a committee created for this purpose.
This year, the regulator plans to prepare the draft bidding rules that will be submitted to public consultation, as well as the terms and conditions and other relevant aspects, such as the duration of concessions, coverage obligations, participation limitations, allocation mechanisms, causes for disqualification and payments.
The regulator also expects to complete the 2023 annual program for the use and exploitation of frequency bands this year.
The program involves 34 projects divided into five institutional objectives. Some 27% of the projects are aimed at promoting the deployment, development and efficient use of networks and infrastructure that facilitate the development of the digital ecosystem and foster digital inclusion.
