Ms Carver, a partner at Herbert Smith Freehills, was appointed as an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission commissioner by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg on Monday.

Her five-year term, and return to the ACCC regulator 23 years after she left the watchdog, will begin in March 2022.

Ms Carver has acted for corporate clients on several high-profile cases against the ACCC, including TPG Telecom on its $15 billion merger with Vodafone Hutchison, a deal unsuccessfully opposed in court by the ACCC.
