Argentina: Toyota wins at trial of alleged auto cartel

The Supreme Court of Justice of Argentina granted a victory car maker Toyota and seven other automakers, declaring an appeal filed by the state to be inadmissible, as it sought to sanction these companies for the alleged formation of a cartel to manipulate the sales of vehicles in the province of Tierra del Fuego.In December 2014, Toyota and seven other automakers were sanctioned as a result of an investigation carried out by the Argentinian antitrust regulator the CNDC since 2008, following a complaint by local car dealers. The aforementioned companies tried unsuccessfully to present resources, but were charged by the Ministry of Internal Trade, who determined that both Toyota and the subsidiaries of Volkswagen, General Motors, Renault, Ford, Fiat, Peugeot Citroën, and Honda would have agreed on the sale prices of their vehicles, negatively affecting consumers.

With the decision, “the accusation and sanction imposed by the Ministry of Internal Commerce of the Nation is definitively revoked,” said Toyota’s defense team, Abeledo Gottheil Abogados.
