US/EU: Trump attacks Vestager over tech probes

Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Europe, saying it “treats us worse than China” and that EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager “hates the United States perhaps worse than any person I’ve ever met,” reported the Financial Times.

    Speaking to Fox on Wednesday, June 26, the US president said that “European nations were set up to take advantage of the United States. They have worse trade barriers than China.”

    “She hates the United States perhaps worse than any person I’ve ever met,” said Mr Trump. “What she does to our country. She’s suing all our companies. We should be suing Google and Facebook, and all that.” He added: “They’re suing Apple. They’re suing everybody.”

    Mr Trump’s latest broadside came on the same day Ms Vestager launched an antitrust case against the US chipmaker Broadcom, accusing it of unfairly using “contractual restrictions” with the makers of TV set-top boxes and modems to shut out rivals. Broadcom is one of the world’s largest suppliers of components to the devices.
