Argentina: Government launches contest to select Competition Authority officials

The government of Argentina called an open contest last Tuesday, which will select the top officials at the National Competition Authority. Applicants may come from the public or private sector, according to the guidelines established by the Department of Internal Trade of the Ministry of Production and Labor.

    The positions to be filled are those of president, member with a lawyer’s degree, member with a degree or higher in Economic Sciences, secretary of economic concentrations, and instructor of anticompetitive behavior.

    The National Competition Authority was established based on the new Law for the Defense of Competition (27,442), enacted in May last year. The National Commission for the Defense of Competition tripled the number of actions compared to their average of the last 10 years; reduced the time of analysis of economic concentrations by almost 40%; and carried out different studies and market research.
