Spain: CNMC worried about bundling of audiovisual content

The National Commission of the Markets and the Competition of Spain (CNMC) has, through its president José María Marín Quemada, expressed their concern over the bundling of content in the telecommunications media market, as well as over the prices for soccer transmissions. Said Marín “You do not know very well what you are paying for anymore”.

    The president of the CNMC pointed out that the telecommunications sector is currently going through an “aggressive transformation” resulting from a “demonopolization” that happened “not so many years ago in Spain”, when only Telefónica existed. However, the president of the CNMC warned that the model also involves risks, such as those of the “bundling” of content.

    On the other hand, Marín recalled that the CNMC has opened a file on what he called a “television duopoly”, in which Mediaset and Atresmedia are involved. “It is tremendously disturbing in what it supposes for the costs of the companies and extraordinarily bad for what the citizens have to pay”.
