Brazil: Disney meeting in Brazil ends without agreement

A crucial meeting between Brazil’s competition regulators and the Walt Disney Co. CEO Robert Iger over the planned US$71 billion deal with 21st Century Fox Inc. ended without an agreement being reached, which could be an important obstacle for the entertainment giant.

    Brazil’s antitrust regulator CADE has not yet issued its decision on the agreement. The legal deadline for a final ruling is March 17.

    Brazilian regulators are still divided over whether the agreement can be approved without the need for Disney to sell one of the two sports channels in the country, Fox Sports or ESPN. In December, CADE published a report that said the agreement could present a danger to competition.
