Orrick’s Antitrust & Competition Group has promoted two new partners: Jonathan Direnfeld in Washington, DC and Marie-Laure Combet in Paris.
Ms. Combet advises on all French and European competition matters and related types of work (i.e., compliance, advisory/transactional and contentious matters).
Over the years, Ms. Combet has also developed a significant experience in relation to State aid matters (i.e., handling very high profile cases notably in the banking sector, the air transportation and energy sectors, as well as general EU law and regulatory matters.)
Prior to joining Orrick, Ms. Combet was Counsel at Clifford Chance Europe LLP in Paris. She previously worked as a lawyer with JeantetAssociés and Debevoise & Plimpton.
Jonathan Direnfeld is a member of the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Group, based in Washington, DC. He focuses on defending technology companies against government enforcement actions by the FTC, DOJ, CFPB, and state AGs relating to their digital sales and marketing activities. Mr. Direfled also advises clients in antitrust litigation and enforcement matters, including merger clearance and global criminal cartel investigations, and assists clients in maximizing their recoveries in antitrust price-fixing cases. He earned his JD, with high honors, from George Washington University and his BA from Kenyon College.
Orrick recently announced the promotion of over 15 lawyers to the firm’s partnership, including Ms. Combet and Mr. Direfled. “Nothing is more important to our future than our ability to recruit, promote and inspire top quality talent. Our 2019 class is stellar both in terms of their legal skills and deep sector experience and their commitment to innovation, collaboration and making a social impact,” said Orrick Chairman Mitch Zuklie. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have this diverse group to lead our firm into the future.”
