UK: MPs call for Facebook antitrust probe

According to The Telegraph, UK Member of Parliament (MP) Damian Collins wants Facebook to face more questions from MPs amid concerns that the social network may have given misleading responses during its last probe in April.

    Mr Collins, who chairs the Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport Committee, accused the tech giant of rewarding firms with data privileges that other organizations do not enjoy, following a report in the New York Times claiming it gave companies far greater access to user data than previously believed, including access to messages.

    In a statement on Wednesday, December 19, Mr Collins, said Facebook should appear before MPs again to clarify whether its policies are a breach of data privacy law.

    “We remain concerned as well about Facebook’s ability to police what happens to user data when it is shared with developers, as was highlighted by the Cambridge Analytica data breach.”
