US: San Antonio door maker wins antitrust case

San Antonio, Texas, door maker Steves and Sons scored a major court victory in its ongoing legal battles with a North Carolina door manufacturer.

    A US District Court jury in the Eastern District of Virginia ruled that Jeld-Wen must sell its Towanda, Pennsylvania doorskin plant in order to restore competition in the marketplace, according to a statement by the lawsuit’s plaintiff, the doorskin company Steves & Sons.

    Steves had alleged the deal substantially reduced competition in the molded interior door skin market. Only two door skin manufacturers were left after the deal. Door skins make up the decorative front and back of interior doors. Such doors are lighter than solid wood doors and can be made and shipped at a lower cost.
