Spain: Gov opens probe into cartel in wholesale coal market

Spain’s competition regulator announced it has started an investigation into a possible cartel in the wholesale coal sector, reported S&P Global. The Comision Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) also stated it had visited the offices of several companies earlier last week to collect information.

    The companies operated in the domestic markets for coking coal, petroleum coke, thermal coal, hard coal, and some other related products, it stated.The CNMC announced it had been tipped off by the Basque Region’s competition authority about possible violations of Law 1/2002 in terms of “anti-competitive collusion.”
