Chile: Public consultation over 5G smashes participation records

“The public consultation we conducted for the 5G National Plan was a success in terms of participation, which reveals that the development of this public policy is a matter of high interest for different companies, organizations and users of telecommunications services in this country. For Subtel, the opinion of all actors that make up the telecommunications ecosystem is important, as it relates to the implementation of the future 5G network… “, said the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Pamela Gidi.

Asked whether sharing infrastructure would help to improve the quality of services and/or lower prices for the benefit of users, most participants indicated that it would help to have a “code of good practices”. They also pointed out that the quality of the 5G networks will be determined by the capacity of available optic fiber, and not necessarily by the sharing of infrastructure.

For its part, Facebook responded to the questions on net neutrality by stating: “Facebook is a strong advocate of net neutrality and believes that maintaining strong protections for the principles of net neutrality is essential to an open Internet for all […] we should not allow Internet access providers to block or accelerate traffic or focus on the prioritization of certain traffic over another in an open Internet, subject to reasonable network management practices…”
