Spain: CNMC looks into alleged vehicle inspection cartel

Spanish watchdog the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) will be looking into possible anticompetitive practices in the market for the provision of technical inspection services for commercial vehicles that travel on the country’s highways, with accusations that include the distribution and manipulation of public tenders.

    CNMC authorities carried out raids at the headquarters of several companies in the sector between September 11 and 12, part of the investigation launched after receiving information from the Traffic Department due to the possible existence of anti-competitive practices by certain companies .

    If, as a result of the investigation, there are indications of practices prohibited by the Law on the Defense of Competition, the formal filing of a motion to sanction will be carried out.
