Mexico: COFECE and European Commission sign cooperation agreement

The Federal Commission for Economic Competition (COFECE) and the European Commission, through the Competition Division (DG Comp) signed a collaboration agreement through which they will seek to formalize the bases for institutional cooperation between both authorities. The agreement was signed by the current leaders of both agencies, Alejandra Palacios (COFECE) and Margrethe Vestager (DG Comp).

    “This new mechanism will allow the COFECE to strengthen the level of cooperation that currently exists with the European Union, both for the analysis of international transactions and for the development of capabilities through technical assistance,” the agency said when announcing the agreement.

    Since its inception, COFECE has worked closely with competition authorities in other countries. At the bilateral level, the signing of agreements or memoranda of understanding has allowed it to participate in a wide range of cooperation activities
