Australia: ACCC clears Brisbane ship terminal deal

An agreement between cruise operator Carnival and the Port of Brisbane over its US$158 million Brisbane mega-terminal development has been given the go-ahead by the competition regulator.

    The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on Thursday, May 10, announced it had granted conditional authorisation for a deal over Carnival’s access to the long- awaited project.

    Under the agreement, Carnival will be limited in the number of weekend days it can berth and cannot be given the first option on which days to berth if the terminal is expanded, the ACCC says. The operator will pay a fixed fee to the port for 15 years in return for preferential berthing rights.
