Argentina: Telecom-Cablevisión merger advances with IGJ approval

Argentina’s General Inspectorate of Justice approved the merger telecommunications companies Sofora, Nortel and Personal following both boards’ approval on January 31st, kicking off the merger process and the start of administrative procedures in the regulatory bodies involved. Among these is the National Communications Agency (Enacom), and the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (CNDC).

    The operation still requires the approval of the CNDC before the new company can offer its new internet and data transmission packages, known as quadruple play.

    At the end of June last year, Telecom announced the merger by absorption of Cablevisión, an operation that once established will create the largest internet operator and content transmission in the country.
