Chile: TDLC ushers in new powers with Turbus-Línea Azul deal

Chile’s Tribunal for the Defense of Free Competition (TDLC) will have the last word in the country’s first damage claims case, marking the first use of the court’s new powers. The court will rule over the conflict between Turbus and Línea Azul, who presented a conciliation agreement for an amount of CLP$ 22.7 billion (USD$37.5 million approximately) against Turbus, Pullman and Transportes Cometa.

    The TDLC ruled against four coach companies – Pullman, Cometa, Turbus and Romani – for blocking access to terminals in the cities of La Serena, Valparaíso and Antofagasta between 2009 and 2011. However, Línea Azul only sued the first three.

      On Friday, March 23, the TDLC called for a conciliation session, in which an agreement was reached exclusively between Turbus and the plaintiff. The final amount of the settlement was not stated, although is presumed to be less than what was requested before the Court.
