Japan: Road pavers delivered bid-rigging fines

According to The Japan News, the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) plans to order nine major road pavers to pay some ¥800 million (US$7.2 million) total in fines for allegedly repeatedly bid-rigging for paving projects ordered by the operator of Narita International Airport near Tokyo and others.

    According to sources, the nine companies are: Nippo Corp., Nippon Road Co., Maeda Road Construction Co., Kajima Road Co., Taisei Rotec Corp., Obayashi Road Corp., Toa Road Corp. and Seikitokyu Kogyo Co.

    In 2016, most of the suspected firms were ordered by the JFTC to pay fines or were given cease-and-desist orders for their involvement in bid-rigging for projects to repair expressways damaged by the powerful earthquake in the Tohoku region or the Kanto region in March, 2011.
