Spain: CNMC appoints new competition advocacy head

Spain’s competition agency appointed Joaquín López Vallés as the new director of its competition advocacy unit on November 6, after its former director left in September and it sacked his deputy last month.

    López Vallés, has extensive experience in the regulation of both Spanish and EU competition law. López Vallés will now be responsible for the “promotion of competition and efficient economic regulation through training and dissemination,” as the CNMC explains on its website.

    The Promotion of Competition Directorate prepares “studies, reports on regulations, guidelines and recommendations,” in addition to proposing “the removal of barriers to effective competition in markets that are established through regulations.”
