EU: US$54b eyeglass merger probe suspended

The European Commission’s (EC) investigation into the US$54 billion merger between French glasses group Essilor and Italian lense company Luxottica has been suspended after the companies failed to deliver the required data.

    The EC said in an email that “This procedure in merger investigations is activated if the parties fail to provide, in a timely fashion, an important piece of information that the Commission has requested from them.

    “Once the missing information is supplied by the parties, the clock is re-started and the deadline for the Commission’s decision is then adjusted accordingly.”

    The merger has already received clearance from Australian regulators and US antitrust authorities are currently examining the deal.
