Chile: FNE clears Maersk takeover of Hamburg Süd

The proposed acquisition of shipping company Hamburg Süd by global leader Maersk was cleared by Chile’s National Economic Prosecutor (FNE). The approval is subject to various conditions, such as a ban on Maersk from including Hamburg Süd’s assets from being included in a currently active VSA (Vessel Sharing Agreement).

    Soren Toft, COO of Maersk Line, said: “We are very pleased that the proposed acquisition of Hamburg Süd has been approved in Chile.” He added that “Chile is an important market for us and we firmly believe that the acquisition proposal of Hamburg Süd will improve the value proposition for local customers of both companies. ”

    The acquisition by Maersk Line of Hamburg Süd still has to clear approval in some jurisdictions. It has been approved by the relevant authorities in several countries, including the USA, Australia, the EU, Mexico, Turkey, Japan, Ecuador, Brazil, South Africa and now in Chile .
