Peru: Uber fined for withholding information from clients

Peru’s market regulator Indecopi has sanctioned Uber for 50,625 soles (US$15,600) for not fulfilling its obligation to provide consumers with relevant information.

    The agency said that information had been hidden from customers , which was necessary for making an appropriate consumer decision. “This violates Article 2 of the Consumer Protection Code, which states that the supplier has the obligation to offer the consumer all relevant information in order to make a decision or make an appropriate choice of consumption…”

    “In this case, consumers, when using the Uber mobile application, were indicated the amount of service in Peruvian soles, but were charged in a different currency (US dollars), without being informing about this possibility” the statement explained.
