Spain: CNMC lashes out at gas sector profits

Authorities at the Spanish competition and markets regulator CNMC have commented on the country’s gas sector, as they believe that the profitability ratio of gas distributors continues to be “wide” for such a low risk activity.

    He noted that, despite the changes introduced by the sector reform that took place in 2014, they are especially striking in a context of “continued imbalance between revenues and the regulated costs of the gas sector”.

    Therefore, the body chaired by José María Marín Quemada warns that if appropriate measures are not taken, “this imbalance can be aggravated.”
