US: Target sues tuna “Big 3”

Target is the latest retailer to file a lawsuit against the “big three” tuna companies over allegations of fixing the price of canned tuna.

    The lawsuit filed by the Minneapolis-based retail giant was moved to U.S. District Court Southern District of California earlier this month to join other suits filed by numerous other retailers, grocers, wholesalers and suppliers, including Wal-Mart, Kroger and Giant Eagle.

    In Target’s lawsuit, the retailer says the conspiracy took place between May 2010 and December 2013, but it plans to show “that the conspiracy lasted a significantly longer period of time.”

    Target’s move comes as a former StarKist employee pleaded guilty to price fixing during a separate US Department of Justice investigation.
