India: CCI approves Dish TV merger

Videocon d2h has received the approval of Competition commission of India (CCI) for the proposed merger of Videocon d2h and Dish TV. The commission in its meeting dated 5th May has approved the merger under sub section (1) of section 31 of the act.

    The new entity will be called Dish TV Videocon Limited as announced in November 2016. The merger will create a huge subscriber base of 27 Million households. The merged entity will have a 16 per cent share of the 145-million subscriber pay-TV (Cable and Satellite TV Households) market.

    Mr. Anil Khera, Chief Executive Officer of Videocon d2h said, “With the approval of the CCI coming through, we are firmly on the path of becoming the world’s largest single country DTH operator with 27.6 Mn subscribers. We look forward to the exciting times ahead”.
