China: Tetra Pak fined $96 million for antitrust

China’s State Administration for Industry and Commerce has issued a fine worth some 96 million USD to Swiss packaging giant Tetra Pak for antitrust.

    According to its notice on penalty decision issued on Wednesday, Tetra Pak, the world’s largest manufacturer of liquid food packaging, was found to have abused its market dominance for anticompetitive activities in China from 2009 to 2013.

    China initiated an investigation of the antitrust case in 2013 across 20 provinces and municipalities.

    The probe found six affiliates of the Swiss company were abusing their market dominance, by bundling its packaging facilities and services with materials.
