US: Kirkland hires competition partner

Kirkland & Ellis announced that former US Federal Trade Commission Assistant Director Matthew J. Reilly has joined the Firm’s Washington, DC, office as a partner in the antitrust and competition practice. Mr. Reilly joins from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he was a partner in the antitrust practice and focused on a wide range of matters, including litigation, complex transactions and counseling, and government investigations.

    While in government, Mr. Reilly served as the head of the FTC’s Mergers IV division where he led some of the division’s most high-profile merger challenges and investigations in industries such as hospitals, retail and consumer products. In total, Mr. Reilly spent 13 years at the FTC where he devoted himself to merger litigation work since joining as a staff attorney in the Mergers I unit.
