US: Gannett pulls offer for Tronc, publisher of Chicago Tribune

Gannett announced Tuesday it was pulling its offer for Tronc, ending a six-month pursuit of the Chicago-based newspaper company that publishes the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times and nine other major newspapers.

    The announcement pushed down shares of Tronc premarket while helping Gannett.

    Gannett today confirmed that the company has been engaged in discussions with Tronc regarding a potential transaction and has determined not to pursue an acquisition of Tronc,” Gannett said in a news release issued Tuesday.
