UK: CMA approves juice business divestment

After Hain Frozen Foods UK Ltd bought Orchard House Foods Ltd in December 2015, the Competition and Markets Authority decided that the merger gave rise to a loss of competition in the supply of own-label freshly squeezed fruit juice to retailers and food service sectors and would be referred for an in-depth investigation unless the companies were able to offer acceptable undertakings to address these concerns.

    The company offered a solution in selling Hain’s own-label freshly squeezed fruit juice business to Multiple Marketing Ltd, which has over 30 years of history in the UK’s fruit juice industry.

    In August the CMA started a public consultation on how the divestment will effect competition and they have since decided to approve the divestment.
