South Korea: Mercedes dealer probed for abuse of dominance

South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission has launched an investigation into suspicions that the top local dealer of Mercedes-Benz enjoys a virtual monopoly on sales by abusing its market dominant position.

    Investigators from the FTC conducted a large-scale on-site investigation into Han Sung Motor Co. in mid-July over its suspected abuse of a dominant position in the market, according to the sources.

    Smaller dealers have complained that Han Sung Motor essentially monopolizes Mercedes-Benz’s local sales network by capitalizing on its large stake in Mercedes-Benz Korea.
