Following the merger of two of the largest cement-makers in the world, French Lafarge and Swiss Holcim’s new business group has released their first sustainability report in Spain. The local branch of the construction materials giant reports on a large reduction of its atmospheric contaminant emissions, thanks to the use of bio-mass energy and the recycling of up to 268,206 tons of waste product, sold as fuel to secondary industries.
LafargeHolcim delivered, in 2015, close to 400 million euros into Spain’s economy through taxes, hiring services, agreements, salaries and Social Corporate Responsibility actions, as well as through investment in Research and Development. The data is among the highlights of the 2015 Sustainability Report presented by the now joint company.
Isidoro Miranda, HolcimLafarge’s boss for Spain, announced the issuing of the report saying that “We have an important responsibility towards the economic, social and environmental development of our surroundings. In this sense we have made important efforts in 2015, hoping to take a leadership position in this matter and setting new standards for the industry as a whole.”
