Chile: Enrique Vergara named new head of Antitrust Tribunal

Chilean attorney and Minister Enrique Vergara Vial has been named by President Michelle Bachelet as the new President of the Free Competition Defense Tribunal, one half of Chile’s antitrust regulatory system. Mr. Vergara will replace outgoing President Tomás Menchaca.

    Vergara, a lawyer from Chile’s Diego Portales University and active lecturer at the University’s School of Law, will preside over the Tribunal for a 6 year term ending in 2022, having been selected out of a pool of five candidates after an open contest. Mr. Vergara has been a Minister at the antitrust court since 2012, having previously served as head of the National Economic Prosecutors office between 2006 and 2010.
