US firm Jones Day has hired an antitrust specialist and former deputy associate attorney general at the United States Department of Justice, as a partner in its Washington, DC competition practice.
Former deputy associate attorney general at the United States Department of Justice, Julia McEvoy, has re-joined global law firm Jones Day as a partner in its antitrust and competition law practice in Washington, DC. The Cleveland-headquartered firm, where she began her legal career in 1995, had previously admitted to her to partnership before she joined the US government in 2012.
In her former role as deputy associate attorney general, McEvoy was responsible for advising senior DOJ and Obama administration officials on antitrust matters, as well as being the primary interface between the antitrust division and DOJ leadership. At the DOJ she also oversaw all types of antitrust matters, including major conduct, criminal and merger cases.
“We’re very happy to welcome Julie back to the Firm,” said David Wales, head of Jones Day’s worldwide antitrust practice in a statement, describing her as “a first rate antitrust lawyer and colleague”. He added: “Her recent experience at a senior level in the DOJ further strengthens our globally recognized antitrust team, particularly in the areas of antitrust litigation and international cartel matters.”
