Perú: Former regional boss sentenced to 8 years over contest manipulation

Cusco’s former Regional President, Hugo Gonzáles Sayán, has been condemned to 8 years imprisonment after being found guilty of collusion, committed during the public contest for maintaining thirteen stretches of highway during his three-year term (2007-2010)

    The sentence was read by the Transitory Penal Liquidation Chamber, led by judge Andrés Quinte VIllegas, along with ministers Uriel Balladares and Sonia Álvarez Pantoja.

    Two other high-ranking officials were sentenced along with their former boss. This includes Cusco’s former Regional Vice-president and former congressman, Mario Ochoa Vargas, charged with collusion and unlawful association, and condemned to seven years behind bars.

    Finally, Cusco’s former Manager for Infrastructure, Guido Gallegos, and businesswoman Katiuska Cárdenas Tresierra, were charged with 5 and 7 years, respectively.
