Russian competition regulator FAS has initiated an investigation into the advertising campaign ‘Open Season’ carried out by the mobile operator Tele2 Russia, reports Vedomosti. A special commission was set up to look into the matter. The operator is suspected violating the Law on Competition and could face a fine up to RUB 500,000.
The campaign invited consumers to write down why they were dissatisfied with their current operator and send it to Tele2. In exchange they would receive a promotional voucher from the company. The ‘big three’ operators in Russia said the campaign could be considered unfair competition. Tele2 said it had not been informed of the investigation and noted that the campaign was ended in February.
