Colombia: CRC may act against Claro’s position

Colombia’s Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) announced that it will consider imposing asymmetrical regulation on the Mobile communications sector, as it seeks to rein in Claro, which controls 73% of the market.

    The CRC said it will consider imposing further limitations ‘if necessary’. Claro’s rivals, Tigo and Movistar, requested the Commission set explicit rules back in April this year.

    Last June Claro had nearly 30 million mobile users and 5.6 million landline customers in Colombia. The company, part of the America Movil multinational, was deemed ‘Dominant’ by regulators in 2009.
