US: Monsanto continues to pursue Syngenta merger

    Hugh Grant, Monsanto CEO, said during the third quarter earnings teleconference last week that the company might look at other opportunities to further integrate crop production products with their seed and traits.

    “The window for seizing this opportunity is measured in months, not years,” Grant said about a potential merger with Syngenta. In the past month, various news reports have surfaced about Monsanto making offers to purchase the Swiss-based company.

    “My preference would be for a friendly deal,” he said. Grant noted they have heard from stockholders of both companies and from other companies.

    However, he noted they have not heard from Syngenta’s management.
