Spain: Regulator to cut tariffs to access Telefonica network

Spain’s communications and competition regulator CNMC has notified the European Commission and Spanish industry and economic ministries of its proposal to cut the wholesale rate payable to Telefonica for indirect access to its broadband network by around 45 percent.

    Indirect access to Telefonica’s lines gives competitors use of copper-wire lines, not fibre optic, for Internet broadband use of up to 30 megabytes the CNMC said.

    According to data from February 2015, there are 755,000 broadband lines with indirect access in Spain.
