Fair trade regulator competition commission of India (CCI) has dismissed a complaint by a GPS devices manufacturer against leading automobile company Maruti Suzuki India.
CCI rejected the complaint related to “unfair business practices” after finding no prima facie evidence of competition norm violations. The complaint was filed by GPS maker Rooster Info, which alleged that Maruti Suzuki India had used its dominant position in the market to coerce buyers of its vehicles to install GPS units manufactured by only two specific companies.
CCI took into account the ‘market for procurement of services for GPS device installed vehicles in India’ and concluded that the percentage of Maruti vehicles with GPS was a paltry 1.52 per cent.
“In the absence of dominance of the opposite party in the relevant market, its conduct cannot be examined under the provisions of section 4 of the Act,” the regulator said in an order dated May 28.
