Spain: EU asked to investigate Spanish industries

Spain’s Society of Bank, Savings and Insurance Users (ADICAE) has requested the European Union to investigate what they consider to be worrying levels of market concentration in key sectors, such as telecommunications, financial services and energy.

    In the case of electricity, the group points to the rising bills and credit rates, which are substantially higher than the Euro zone average. Regarding telecommunications, the group mentioned bad service, low broadband speeds and scant coverage when compared to other European countries.

    ADICAE considers the situation to be detrimental to free competition in areas that are “determinant to citizens’ quality of life”, prompting their decision to present their claim before the EU’s competition regulators, who will analyse the situation and consider appropriate measures.
