Region: Subregional Competition Defence Summit Held in Dominican Republic

The First Subregional Summit for Competition Authority Chiefs of Central America, The Caribbean and Mexico was held in the Dominican Republic. The event brought together representatives from competition regulators in countries such as Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico and the Caribbean Community, CARICOM.

    The gathering is part of tan effort to create a multilateral discussion forum, as a tool to help al the regional competition authorities and to boost cooperation in the field, enabling a permanent dialogue that will allow authorities to anticipate the challenges, difficulties and threats faced by the region.

    The Summit’s attendees concluded with shows of support for several regional agencies, including a recognition for Guatemala’s efforts in creating a comprehensive Competition Law, as well as a call to the Dominican Republic’s legislature, asking them to once and for all allow the designation of this country’s competition authority’s Executive Director.
