EU/Russia: Hungary’s nuclear fuel supply from Russia approved

The European Union has agreed that Hungary can receive nuclear fuel from Russia to expand its only nuclear plant, a milestone decision that will allow the project to proceed, a Hungarian government official said Monday.

    The move puts an end to doubts over whether the European Commission, the EU’s executive, would halt the EUR12 billion ($12.96 billion) construction project, Janos Lazar, head of the Hungarian premier’s office said at a news conference.

    Last year, Hungary signed a contract with Russia to build two 1,200 megawatt units at its Paks nuclear power plant.
