Spain: Uber files complaint before European Commission

Online Taxi operators Uber have filed a formal complaint against Spain before the European Commission, stemming from the country’s recent ban on the use of their mobile app.The company has argued that the laws that ban their company are in violation of European legislation and the principles of the European Open Market.

    Spain’s law prevents all Spanish mobile users from utilising Uber’s mobile app, with all major mobile operators ordered to block access to it and similar apps. This means the services cannot be used, even when travelling to a country where the use of Uber is permitted.

    The case adds to the list of Uber-related complaints being investigated by the EC, including complaints by Taxi unions and companies in France, Belgium and Germany.
