US: Staples eyed amid Office Depot/OfficeMax consolidation

After a successful merger in 2013, Office Depot and OfficeMax have launched a new advertising campaign, but reports are already emerging that the newly combined office supplies conglomerate could consider a merger with Staples.

    The firms’ new advertisements show both the Office Depot and OfficeMax logos in efforts to reiterate their partnership to consumers, reports say. The firms have stated that their merger has become a “huge success,” reports say, but activist investor Jeff Smith of Starboard Value – who owns stakes in both Office Depot and Staples – may push for a merger of the two.
