US: Lead Forex, LIBOR lawyer leaves DOJ for private practice

A lead prosecutor for the government in investigations of alleged foreign exchange and LIBOR benchmark manipulation has left the US Department of Justice for private practice.

    Elizabeth Prewitt will join Hughes Hubbard & Reed, reports said Monday. She currently serves as an assistant chief of the DOJ’s antitrust division, but will join Hughes Hubbard in its New York office as a partner.

    In an interview, Prewitt said her 16 years at the DOJ gave her “a fantastic range of opportunities,” but that she is “ready to start a new chapter.”

    The lawyer’s experience includes leading the government’s investigation into forex and LIBOR benchmark manipulation claims, a case that lead to settlements with banks including Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays.
