Ukraine: Regs back down from air route rules

Federal officials in Ukraine backed down from proposed rules that would control how air routes were distributed among airline companies, say reports.

    The new regulations, proposed earlier this month, would have required airlines requesting permission to fly on international routes to have Ukraine or a Ukranian citizen as its final beneficiary, say reports. But the proposals were met with intense backlash on claims they unfairly discriminate against international airlines and are anticompetitive.

    Opponents said the rules would likely give an unfair advantage to Ukraine International Airlines, the largest local flights airliner.

    But the Justice Ministry has suspended the implementation of those rules, which were first put forth by the State Aviation Service, according to reports.
