US: Chesapeake Energy reveals latest DOJ drama

Chesapeake Energy Corporation revealed in its regulatory filing last week that the US Department of Justice has subpoenaed the company in its investigation of royalty payment practices.

    Reports say Chesapeake is facing several state- and federal-level antitrust investigations related to acquisitions and leasing of oil and gas rights in several states, as well as claims the company underpaid royalties for gas and oil extracted from landowners’ properties.

    Chesapeake, the second-largest natural gas producer in the nation, says the DOJ has demanded documents and other information related to the ongoing investigations.
