UK: Workers demand competition protection for Royal Mail

    The Communication Workers Union submitted the demands to Parliament as lawmakers examine the market and as industry watchdog Ofcom is encouraged to crack down on top Royal Mail rival, Whistl.

    Reports say the CWU argues Whistl, which was previously named TNT Post UK, has been “cherry-picking” Royal Mail’s most popular routes, undermining competition. The Union is calling for limits on Whistl’s mail delivery services in certain parts of the UK.

    So far, Ofcom has said there is no evidence that Whistl’s operations have undermined competition and that it has not impacted universal service enough to initiate a review.
