Unnamed sources say that the US Department of Justice’s key concern in the proposed merger between Comcast and Time Warner Cable is national Internet access.
Reports say sources who attended meetings between the DOJ, Comcast and TWC officials reveal that the government’s main concern of the $45 billion merger is whether Comcast’s wider reach across the US following the acquisition would harm national video services.
According to reports, antitrust experts briefed on the confidential meetings were split as to whether the DOJ’s concerns pose a threat to the completion of the merger. The DOJ is reviewing the deal along with the Federal Communications Commission; reports say the probes will likely continue into next year.
