King & Spalding is boosting its global antitrust practice with its latest hire, say reports.
Former Federal Trade Commission executive Norman A. Armstrong, Jr. will join the firm as a partner at its office in Washington, D.C., the firm announced Monday. Armstrong served as the FTC’s deputy director at its Bureau of Competition.
While at the FTC, Armstrong headed three divisions to oversee merger and acquisition investigations in various industries including technology, pharmaceuticals and retail.
Among his most notable cases on which he worked includes ProMedica’s takeover of St. Luke’s Hospital, While Foods’ acquisition of Wild Oats, and Pfizer’s proposed buyout of Wyeth.
King & Spalding said it is “thrilled” to add Armstrong to its team. “His expertise in merger and other competition issues, which he developed in his nearly 20 years of experience at all levels of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition, complements King & Spalding’s competition law practice,” the firm’s head of antitrust, Jeff Spigel, said.
